The Netflix film Maa Behen, starring Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, and Dharna Durga, has drawn praise from Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Vidya Balan, as the film climbs to number two on Netflix’s Top 10 Non-English Films list, trending across 15 countries.

Priyanka calls herself Dharna’s fan

Taking to Instagram, Priyanka Chopra Jonas shared the film’s poster and posted a note commending the full team. She wrote: “Such a clever film. Sharp, funny and so well done. My queen @madhuridixitnene, always the scene stealer and the phenomenon @tripti_dimri… what an amazing show and tell! And @dharnaaaaa I have been such a fan always, and I cannot wait to see what all you unleash upon us. Keep crushing!! Vidya Balan weighs in

Vidya Balan also posted a note on Instagram, tagging director Suresh Triveni and celebrating the film’s three leads. She wrote: “@sureshtriveni_ aapki toh MAA BEHEN ek ho gayi Netflix pe. Was so much fun to watch the crackling chemistry between @madhuridixitnene @tripti dimri & @dharnaaaaa. Congrats @ivikramix @openingimageofficial @netflix_in.”

About the film

Directed by Suresh Triveni, Maa Behen follows three women: Madhuri plays a widow, while Triptii and Dharna portray her daughters. Triptii’s character is married, while Dharna’s lives in Patna and pursues content creation. The plot is set in motion one night when the three women discover that their neighbour Gupta Ji, played by Ravi Kishan, has died in their home.

The film addresses patriarchy, consent, and everyday misogyny through a comedic lens.

Triveni previously directed Tumhari Sulu (2017), starring Vidya Balan, and the thriller Jalsa (2022). On the Netflix global chart, Maa Behen trails only the Spanish film The Marked Woman, which currently holds the top position.
