After the first season of MGM+’s Robin Hood finished airing at the end of last year, fans were left waiting to see what would become of the series.
In February, it was confirmed that the historical drama would be returning for a second season and as summer well and truly gets underway, so does filming for the new instalment. Production for season 2 has kicked off in Serbia, with three recently confirmed new cast members signalling that the stakes will continue to be high for our cast of returning characters.
As per the description for season 2: “Sweeping in scope yet intimate in emotion, season 2 deepens the romance, sharpens the rivalries, and reimagines the legend as a prestige drama about love, legacy and the price of becoming history.”
But when will Robin Hood season 2 be landing on our screens? Read on for everything we know so far.
Will there be a Robin Hood season 2 on MGM+?
Yes! MGM+ renewed Robin Hood for season 2 back in February 2026.
In a statement, Michael Wright, global head of MGM+, said: “Robin Hood quickly became one of our top-performing original series of all time, and the response from our audiences both in the US and abroad has been exceptional.
“We’re thrilled to continue this epic adventure for a second season. John Glenn, [executive producer and director] Jonathan English, and the entire creative team have reimagined this legendary tale with remarkable depth and authenticity, and we can’t wait to see where they take us next.”
When could Robin Hood season 2 be released?
A release date for Robin Hood season 2 has not yet been confirmed.
However, we do know that filming is currently underway in Serbia so we’d hazard a guess and assume that new episodes may arrive in 2027. Watch this space for updates.
Who could return for Robin Hood season 2?
Jack Patten obviously helms the series as the titular character so we’d anticipate his return alongside Lauren McQueen who plays Maid Marian, as well as Sean Bean and Connie Nielsen.
While we haven’t yet had official word about any returning cast for season 2, it was recently announced that three new characters will be joining the Robin Hood fold. Those include James Purefoy (Sex Education) as King Henry, Colin O’Donoghue (Once Upon a Time) as Prince Richard and Luke Roberts (Ransom) as Amaury D’Montfort.
Aside from those confirmed actors, the cast we’d expect to return for the second season is as follows.

What could Robin Hood season 2 be about?
From the sounds of it, the new characters will certainly shake things up for season 2. Purefoy will star as King Henry and his “ruthless vision” for the country is set to put season 2’s events in motion. His son, Prince Richard, will be played by O’Donoghue but his “fate” has been teased to be the very thing to “plunge the kingdom into civil war”.
The synopsis for season 2 reads: “As the Angevin empire threatens to tear itself apart, Rob and Marian are drawn into the orbit of kings and queens, forced to wield the very instruments of Norman power – politics, gold and betrayal – to secure a future for the Saxons. What begins as a fight for survival becomes a reckoning with power itself.
“Sweeping in scope yet intimate in emotion, season 2 deepens the romance, sharpens the rivalries, and reimagines the legend as a prestige drama about love, legacy and the price of becoming history.”
