Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) has met with another of Dr Caitlin Todd’s (Caroline Harker) victims in Emmerdale – and is hopeful that they could help her case.
The week kicked off with some bad news. The CPS had decided to drop the blackmail and sexual assault reports against Todd, due to a lack of evidence.
As viewers know, the surgeon demanded a serious amount of money in exchange for her silence over a huge secret that Charity was keeping. She’d discovered that, while Charity was acting as surrogate for granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), she actually fell pregnant with Ross Barton’s (Michael Parr) child instead.
The baby – Leyla – was born, and Sarah is now raising her auntie, under the illusion that she’s her daughter.
Before Todd left the village, she sexually assaulted Charity. Her family believed she was suffering from postnatal depression, but in the aftermath, she’s slowly opened up about the ordeal.
In today’s episode, Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) told Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) that she was heading to Hotten General in the hope that she could speak with a HR representative about Todd’s reputation.
She knew, from Jacob Sugden’s (Joe-Warren Plant) earlier bullying ordeal, that there were other staff members within the hospital who had placed complaints against her that weren’t investigated.
In an office, the HR rep explained that she wasn’t allowed to disclose who had reported Todd. But when she printed out a list of names, Vanessa quickly snatched it from the side of the desk and rushed out.
It lead her in the path of Helen (Nicole Evans), who was initially reluctant to open up. However, when she heard that Charity was another victim, she ushered the women into a side room.
Helen said that Todd had forced herself onto her, and placed her hand down her trousers. She also said that whenever they’d crossed paths in the hospital corridors, she’d clearly taken great pleasure in making her feel uncomfortable.
Charity and Vanessa were horrified to hear these words come out of her mouth, and urged her to speak to the police. However, Helen believed that because she’d been able to stop the doctor, authorities wouldn’t entertain her claims.
Although Helen had to return to her shift, Charity was hopeful that this was a step forward towards justice.
However, as we know, a flashforward scene that aired earlier this year revealed that Todd will eventually meet a grisly end and be murdered.
But who is the killer?
