David Tennant’s schedule (probably) just got even busier as Netflix has renewed its hit comedy series The Four Seasons, with the Doctor Who legend likely to be involved in some capacity.

The actor surprised and delighted viewers with his secret appearance at the end of season 2, where his character, Gianpiero, emerged as potential new love interest for widowed Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver).
Deadline reports that Tennant has not formally signed on for season 3, but the introduction seemed to be paving the way for a larger storyline, so we’d certainly be surprised if he was absent entirely.
Inspired by the Alan Alda film of the same name, The Four Seasons is the latest TV project from 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt creator Tina Fey, who also co-stars opposite Kenney-Silver, Will Forte, Colman Domingo, Marco Calvani and Erika Henningsen.
In a joint statement, Fey and series co-creators Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield thanked “everyone who watched,” with a particular shout-out to “middle-aged people, LFG!” – the excitable acronym for ‘let’s f***ing go’.

Netflix’s US comedy boss Tracey Pakosta added: “It’s been a joy watching the chaotic, beautiful journey of these lifelong friends. Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield have a magical way of blending heart and sharp humor, making us feel like part of the inner circle.”
In a post-season 2 interview with Decider, Wigfield revealed that Fey was first to suggest casting “someone like David Tennant” as Anne’s potential new beau, and they were “thrilled” that the Good Omens star said ‘yes’.
“It was just the one scene, so we shot it in one day, and he’s so lovely and he looks so good with Kerri,” she continued. “Anne obviously has been on a journey in season 1 and then season 2 as well.
“She’s trying to be ‘Anne 2.0’ and have this sort of personal renaissance, but it’s not going great. So there was something really exciting, when we were thinking about a cliffhanger for a possible season 3, of having a romantic cliffhanger.”
She teased that Tennant’s mystery man was somebody that viewers would be “excited to see more stories with,” which implies that a continuation of their fledgling relationship is on the cards.
Tennant also made headlines last week, with the announcement that he’d be joining the London-set sixth season of Only Murders in the Building, alongside a slew of other big-name British talents.
