A teaser has been released for upcoming ITV drama Adultery, which will star Mamma Mia!‘s Dominic Cooper and Atonement’s Romola Garai as Tom and Beth, two people whose love affair threatens to uproot their whole lives.

The short teaser features glimpses of Tom and Beth’s happy relationships with their respective partners, Shelley Conn’s Hannah and Matthew McNulty’s Neil, as well as their subsequent steamy affair.
A voiceover says: “There’s a psychological equation – attraction plus an obstacle equals excitement. But what happens if the attraction is too strong? What then?”
You can watch the teaser right here now.

The official synopsis for the series, which comes from writer Danny Brocklehurst (Missing You) and will launch on ITV and STV later this autumn, calls it a “provocative love story of passion, parenthood and peril that raises questions about class, grief and the effects of social media”.
The synopsis continues: “Naturally authentic and bristling with forbidden desire, it focuses on two families and the love affair that threatens to uproot their whole lives.
“When Tom Kirkman (Dominic Cooper) and Beth Brookes (Romola Garai) first meet they share an immediate, intense connection. The only problem is, Tom’s 15-year old daughter Jess (Leila Khan) is in a relationship with Beth’s son Ollie (Johnny Sanpher), and their young love has become all-consuming.

“As Tom and Beth struggle with their undeniable desires, they must grapple with their guilt and the potential consequences for their families and partners, Hannah (Shelley Conn) and Neil (Matthew McNulty). Will they be able to control their desires unlike their lovestruck teenagers?”
Cooper was recently seen in The Gold and The Last Frontier, while Garai starred in Just Act Normal and another ITV thriller, Betrayal.
