The Walking Dead legend Norman Reedus has shared an emotional goodbye to his beloved character, Daryl Dixon, after wrapping on the final season of the spin-off show.
Reedus has played Daryl for the last 15 years after his first appearance in The Walking Dead in the show’s third ever episode in 2010, with the character’s adventures continuing in four seasons of the successful spin-off series.
Reflecting on filming the last episode of Daryl Dixon season 4, Reedus shared some behind-the-scenes snaps on Instagram, and wrote: “Finally going through these photos to check off from the last episode now that I’m back from Mongolia it was really hard to kill any of them.
“I didn’t post any of those here, but I can’t wait for people to see this show the crew best I’ve ever worked with the feeling of accomplishment when it was over was just amazing.
“Such hard work and I so much [heart] put into this I think you’re gonna feel it. It was a special season. I can’t wait for you to see it. It hits just way different this time. ❤️⚡️.”
The photos show Reedus donning his Daryl Dixon costume one last time, pointing at a (hopefully fake!) blood-splattered clapperboard, hugging cast and crew members, and listening to speeches on set.
Commenting on the post, countless fans expressed their excitement for the final season of the spin-off, with one saying: “Can’t wait to see what you all created. 🖤 the love for the crew and this season shines through every word. thank you 🖤 for everything.”
Another added: “We can’t wait to see how all the hard work from you and Melissa pays off! It’s definitely going to be a special season.”
One more said: “You can already feel the passion behind this season.💙 Thank you for giving it everything you had. Now you’ve got us counting down the days✨we’re more than ready for this incredible journey.”
Reedus previously confirmed he had finished filming season 4 in November last year, bidding goodbye to the character he has dedicated more than a decade to his life to.
“Last filming day today for daryl dixon,” he said. “It’s been such a joy for me to play this guy with all of u for this long. I feel really blessed. Truly. Thank you all really from my heart.”
Daryl Dixon season 4 doesn’t yet have a confirmed release date, but is expected to air this autumn. At eight episodes, it’ll be the longest season of the show to date.
The spin-off series has followed Daryl’s adventures after he washed ashore in France, with the character seeking safe passage back to America.
