Trigger Point is returning to ITV for its fourth season, with a teaser trailer released today offering a glimpse at what’s in store for embattled explosives officer, or ‘expo’, Lana Washington (as played by Vicky McClure).

The series, which is executive produced by Line of Duty‘s Jed Mercurio, sees Lana and her team race to neutralise bomb threats, showing nerves of steel as each active crime scene could be their last.
Their bravery doesn’t come without a price, though, with previous chapters of the drama exploring Lana’s extreme post-traumatic stress after so many harrowing experiences – and some crushing losses.
When we find her in this brand new teaser, she’s sharing her candid thoughts about the job with somebody off-camera, perhaps a therapist or close friend, where she questions: “Is this it? Is this the last one?”
The line could leave some viewers speculating whether this might be the end of the road for the character, with Trigger Point’s future now being uncertain after its early season 4 renewal last year.

For what it’s worth, the nail-biting series doesn’t appear to be losing momentum, with season 3 becoming ITV’s fifth most-watched drama of last year, with an average of 7 million viewers tuning in across its six episodes.
McClure leads the Trigger Point cast for season 4, with co-stars Eric Shango (Danny), Nabil Elouahabi (Hass), Natalie Simpson (DS Helen Morgan) and Maanuv Thiara (DCI Batra) also confirmed to be returning.
Among the new additions for these episodes are Julie Graham and Jonas Armstrong, who are billed as “guest stars”. After some shocking exits in previous runs, it’s anybody’s guess which of these imperilled characters will make it to the end alive.

ITV’s director of drama Polly Hill commented: “I’m delighted that this thrilling series is returning for a fourth series. I know audiences will be once again on the edge of their seat as Lana and the team take us on another thrilling ride to keep the capital safe.”
McClure added in a statement: “I love working with the team, we have a great time making the show and I cannot wait to continue Lana’s journey on Trigger Point.”
The new episodes are written by Chris Brandon (Bloodlands) and directed by Jennie Darnell (Payback) and Nirpal Bhogal (DI Ray). A release date is still to be announced, but we’ll bring you further updates as they come in.
Trigger Point season 4 is coming soon to ITV1 and ITVX.
