The World Cup co-hosts and their European counterparts are all-but guaranteed a place in the knockout stage after emphatic victories in their second group games moved them on to four points each.
Canada stuck six goals without reply past nine-man Qatar to climb to the summit on goal difference. Jonathan David hit a hat-trick, although the victory was marred by Ismaël Koné fracturing his leg.
Switzerland, meanwhile, discovered their scoring touch in the closing stages of their meeting with Bosnia and Herzegovina as they ran out 4-1 winners. Sunderland skipper Granit Xhaka hit their fourth and final goal from the penalty spot.
While the Swiss need to win to finish top, Canada will progress as Group B winners if they avoid defeat and that would earn a last-32 stage clash with one of the best ranked third-place teams.
