Producer Vashu Bhagnani held a virtual press conference from Dubai with selected members of the media on May 22 and shed light on his ongoing legal dispute with Ramesh Taurani of Tips over the upcoming comic caper, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The Varun Dhawan-starrer, scheduled for a release on June 5, is directed by David Dhawan. The film has two songs from Biwi No 1 (1999), which was directed by David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani. At the press meet, Vashu was asked if he would like Salman Khan to mediate. Salman Khan was the leading man in the 1999 romantic comedy.

Vashu Bhagnani said, “Woh bechara bol nahin paa raha hai lekin usse kitna dukh ho raha hoga since they used his song and even called him on the set. Poor guy even went on the set in his personal capacity. David ji wouldn’t have got a bigger support than him. David ji bade smart aadmi hai. He got Salman on the set to take him into confidence and tell him ‘Dekh, main tera gaana (recreate) kar raha hoon’. Yet, he’s wrong ethically.”

He continued, “Salman is a very dildaar man. Agar unka seena 48-inch ka hai, toh unka dil 96 ka hai. But why drag him into this? He has nothing to do with this. He acted in Biwi No 1, the film was a hit, after which he made 50 other films. He is also not going to get any royalties. Main usko iss gandagi mein kyun daalu? He’ll tell me, ‘Vashu, khatam kar’. David ji should think, ‘Humein Vashu ko haq dena chahiye aur usse thank you bolna chahiye’. David ji, Ramesh ji and I need to be involved. For the fourth person to get involved, the three of them need to be on the same page.”
