Actress Elizabeth Rider is returning to Coronation Street this summer.
The star, who has appeared in Line of Duty, Sister Boniface Mysteries and Call the Midwife, also has an impressive wealth of soap roles under her belt.
She’s appeared in four different Casualty, Holby City and The Bill roles, three in Emmerdale, and one each in EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Waterloo Road. Rider also had a recurring part as DCI Lynette Roberts in Doctors between 2009 and 2017.
From August to October 1999, she played Kathleen Gutteridge, the biological mother of Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold) on Corrie. At the time, he’d just discovered that uncle Fred Elliott (John Savident) was actually his father.
Ashley resented Kathleen for abandoning him, though they later made amends and she attended his wedding to Maxine Heavey (Tracy Shaw).
Rider returned to the cobbles as Genna, a social worker dealing with Les Battersby-Brown’s (Bruce Jones) adoption of stepson Chesney (Sam Aston).
The Sun has reported that Rider is returning – albeit in a new role.
A source told the publication: “Corrie bosses are delighted to have tempted Elizabeth for a short stint on the cobbles.

ITV have been approached for comment, though Radio Times understands this to be true, and she’ll be on screens in August.

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 or can be streamed from 7am on ITVX.
