Some are already billing this as the British equivalent to Power, with Fightland’s recently released trailer certainly cementing the new series as one to watch out for.
The British boxing crime drama is being executive produced by Power’s Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through his G-Unit Film & Television banner – his first internationally produced show – so it makes sense that the two shows seem to have a similar sense of grit and fuel-filled angst.
The Starz and Sky co-commission is being led by Top Boy and Whitstable Pearl star Howard Charles as Duke, a disgraced heavyweight champion who, upon being released from prison, is seeking revenge on the crime family he believes betrayed him.
The new series has been created by Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith, with Peaky Blinders‘ Otto Bathurst directing and executive producing the first two episodes. Fightland also boasts some stellar talent in the form of Nicholas Pinnock and Deborah Ayorinde in the star-studded ensemble. But when does it air? Read on to find out.

What will happen in Fightland?

The official series synopsis for Fightland reads: “On the night that British-born boxer Duke Kilroy (Howard Charles) becomes world heavyweight champion, a vicious assault leaves his brother, Calvin, dead. Duke is devastated and his reaction in the aftermath costs him eight years in a US prison.
“Upon his release, and after having made a sinister discovery, Duke returns home seeking vengeance against the man he believes set him up — the criminal kingpin and his former promoter Kingsley Marshall (Nicholas Pinnock). But Kingsley has vanished, leaving his children and wife, Joy (Deborah Ayorinde), who happens to be the love of Duke’s life, to pick up the pieces.”
It continues: “Working with a cartel desperate to control London’s drug market, Duke begins a high-risk game of infiltrating Kingsley’s empire to destroy it from within and smoke out his enemy.
“But amidst a volatile criminal landscape, and competing influences threatening to pull him off course, Duke will need to channel everything that made him a champion fighter into his bloody pursuit to win the ultimate victory – revenge for his brother.”
