A new update suggests that It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 is bringing in fresh creative talent, with writers linked to Dark and Stranger Things reported to be joining the project. The reported additions point to a shift in the writers’ room as development on the next chapter of the series continues. At present, HBO has not formally announced the second season. However, the update indicates steady progress behind the scenes.

It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 gets new writers
The creative team behind It: Welcome to Derry appears to be expanding, with several new writers reportedly joining the development of the second season. While HBO has not issued an official confirmation, Nexus Point News has reported that the project is moving forward with a group of writers known for their work on other high-profile series.
Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, known for creating Dark and 1899, are among the notable names linked to the project by the report. They are reportedly joined by Jessica Mecklenburg, who has worked on Stranger Things, and John McCutcheon, whose recent credits include The Penguin. The lineup further includes Donald Joh, whose credits include Invasion and Snowpiercer, and Tara Shivkumar. As of now, these additions have not been formally announced.
Beyond the reported staffing updates, development on Season 2 has been ongoing following the positive response to the first season. The series was developed by Andy Muschietti, who previously helmed the It films, alongside Jason Fuchs and Barbara Muschietti.
Andy Muschietti has indicated that the next season of the series will move to a different period, shifting the timeline to 1935. The story is expected to draw from the Bradley Gang incident. He told Deadline’s Contenders TV panel, “It’s 1935 – we’re now working on it, and it’s so much fun. For the ones of you who read the books, probably the Bradley Gang sounds familiar. The Bradley Gang was a gang of bank robbers that — not accidentally, but they were on their way somewhere, and they stopped in Derry to buy some ammo and something horrible happens.”
At this stage, details regarding the season’s production timeline and a release window have not been revealed.
