The Annecy International Animation Film Festival is just around the corner, and Netflix is once again packing its bags for France. Following a mammoth showing in recent years, the initial lineup for Netflix’s 2026 presentations has been revealed, teasing an exciting slate of heavy-hitting adult animation, iconic sci-fi, and beloved franchises.
As initially reported by Cartoon Brew, Netflix will be hosting a series of Special Events and panels at this year’s festival. If you thought the streamer brought the heat last year (check out our 2025 preview and full 2025 recap for a refresher on In Your Dreams, Stranger Things, and Fixed), 2026 is already shaping up to be just as massive.
Here’s a breakdown of the initial projects confirmed for Netflix’s Annecy 2026 showcase:
Ray Gunn

Legendary animation director Brad Bird (The Iron Giant, The Incredibles) will take to the stage as part of the annual Next on Netflix showcase. He’ll be discussing his long-gestating passion project, Ray Gunn.
Overview: Ray Gunn is a sweeping sci-fi detective story boasting an incredibly star-studded voice cast that includes Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, and music icon Tom Waits. Originally conceived decades ago, Bird’s retro-futuristic noir is finally coming to life on Netflix, and Annecy attendees will be among the first to get an inside look at the world-building.
Alley Cats

Ricky Gervais will be in attendance this year to deliver a special masterclass. Serving as the creator and director of the upcoming adult animated series Alley Cats, Gervais will treat attendees to an exclusive sneak peek of the first two episodes.
Overview: Known for his biting, observational humor, Gervais’s Alley Cats follows a group of feral cats who seek companionship while ruminating on the harsh, often absurd realities of everyday life. Expect plenty of existential dread wrapped in dark, laugh-out-loud comedy.
Ghostbusters (Animated Series)
Who ya gonna call? Showrunners Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan are officially returning to Annecy! During the Next on Netflix showcase, the duo will unveil an exclusive preview of the highly anticipated Ghostbusters animated series, which is set to hit the streamer next year.
Fans will remember we previously covered the Ghostbusters update at Annecy when Ben Hibon was first announced as the showrunner. It looks like production has moved along nicely, and we’ll finally get to see some ectoplasmic action.
Overview: Produced by Sony Pictures Animation and Ghost Corps, this brand-new 3D animated series expands the beloved Ghostbusters universe for a new generation. While plot details are still largely kept in the containment unit, this Annecy preview should give us our first real look at the animation style and tone.
What else is coming?
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Netflix rarely reveals its full hand this early, and the complete Annecy lineup is expected to be announced over the next few weeks. Don’t forget Netflix also has Steps for 2026, plus Blue Eye Samurai S2 for 2027, plus other returning and new shows. Keep your eyes peeled on What’s on Netflix, as we fully expect a few more massive surprises before the festival officially kicks off, and we’ll be on the ground to cover it all!
