“Wanna go for a drive?” Universal Pictures has unveiled a brand new anniversary trailer for the OG classic The Fast and the Furious, the very first movie that launched this franchise all these years ago. Originally released in June 2001, The Fast and the Furious is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year & Universal is sending it back into theaters this August. It also had a special screening at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. “Over the course of 11 films that have stoked passion in an ever-expanding audience and have earned more than $7 billion U.S. at the worldwide box office, Universal’s record-smashing, homegrown Fast & Furious Saga has become the studio’s most-profitable and longest-running franchise.” Directed by Rob Cohen, The Fast and the Furious stars Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Rick Yune, Chad Lindberg, Johnny Strong, and Ted Levine. The Fast Saga then continued on with many sequels & spin-offs, and they’ve got the next Fast Forever sequel scheduled for 2028. Many die-hard fans consider the second movie the best, but this first one is still tons of fun. And more raw in the way it actually had to set the stakes and make the driving realistic which was copied after. Catch it on the big screen again.

And here’s the original old school 2001 trailer for The Fast and the Furious, also from YouTube:

They’ve got the adrenaline rush and the mean machines, but most of all, they’ve got the extreme need for speed. On the turbo-charged streets of Los Angeles, every night is a championship race. With nitro-boosted fury, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), rules the road turning all his challengers into dust. He and his rival, Johnny Tran (Rick Yune) are the boldest, the baddest and the best. But there’s new rage on the road. They know he’s tough, they know he’s fast, but what they don’t know is that he’s a speed demon detective (Paul Walker) with enough drive and determination to come out the winner. With intense full-throttle action, awesome high-speed stunts, and full-on pedal to the metal intensity, this fast and furious assault puts you in the driver’s seat & dares you to exceed all limits. The Fast and the Furious is directed by American action filmmaker Rob Cohen, his 8th movie at the time after making The Skulls (2000) and before xXx (2002) right after. The screenplay is written by Gary Scott Thompson and Erik Bergquist and David Ayer; based on the magazine article “Racer X” written by Ken Li. Produced by Neal H. Moritz. Shot on location in Southern California in the year 2000, and first opened in theaters in June 2001. Universal is re-releasing this first The Fast and the Furious in theaters nationwide on August 21st, 2026. For tickets – visit Fandango’s site.
