Actor and author Soha Ali Khan has sparked a conversation around women’s representation in Parliament, using her podcast platform All About Her to highlight concerns about the delayed implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill.

Soha Ali Khan raises concerns over women’s reservation implementation delay
Taking to Instagram, Soha broke down the issue in a simple and accessible manner, focusing on the gap between policy and execution. While the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed in 2023, she pointed out that it is yet to be implemented as it has been linked to two future processes, the Census and delimitation.
Explaining the implications, Soha noted that the Census is responsible for updating population data, while delimitation redraws constituency boundaries and determines seat distribution. These processes, she suggested, are complex and time-consuming, raising questions about why women’s reservation has been tied to them.
At the heart of her message was a larger concern about accountability and timelines. She questioned the uncertainty surrounding the implementation, indicating that when timelines remain unclear, commitments risk losing their urgency and impact.
Framing the issue as one of inclusion and equity, Soha emphasised that representation should not be treated as a concession. “Representation is not a favour but a right,” she stated, underlining the importance of ensuring women have a stronger voice in decision-making spaces without prolonged delays.
Through All About Her, Soha continues to use her platform to engage audiences in meaningful conversations, encouraging them to not only stay informed but also critically examine issues that shape society.
