The fourth season of The Bear ended on a major cliffhanger, with Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy quitting the food industry, and leaving the restaurant to Ayo Edebiri’s Sydney, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Richie and Abby Elliott’s Sugar.

As the trailer for the new season has already revealed, we will see Carmy back in the kitchen during season 5, but Ebraheim star Edwin Lee Gibson has revealed that his character is “gutted” by Carmy’s decision.
Speaking exclusively with Radio Times, Gibson said: “I think just like everyone else, he’s gutted by it, because Carmy is Ebraheim’s only link to Mikey.
“So I found a great interest in, between [seasons] 4 and 5, Ebra’s feeling about that happening, because there’s that connection that he’s always had to the place.”

Mikey is Carmy’s brother, played by Jon Bernthal, who died by suicide ahead of season 1. He ran the restaurant, then a sandwich shop called The Original Beef of Chicagoland, which Carmy inherited and converted into fine dining joint The Bear.
Gibson, who has played Ebraheim on The Bear since its very first season, also told Radio Times that the final episode of season 5, the show’s last run, is “gut-wrenching”, but that he believes the story could continue.
Gibson said: “And it was just nice to see how Christopher [Storer, creator] crafted season 5, so that the last episode, while it was gut-wrenching, it made sense. Of course, I think there’s still more story there.”
The new season will pick up the morning after Carmy announced his decision, with the official synopsis teasing: “With no money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm in their way, the new partners must band together with the rest of the team to achieve one last service, hoping they’ll finally earn a Michelin star.
“Ultimately, they learn that what makes a restaurant ‘perfect’ might not be the food, but the people.”
