The Boys Season 5 Episode 4 brought a major development to Homelander‘s story arc. Following up on the setup in Episode 3, he finally becomes the very thing he had envisioned himself as.

The deranged leader of The Seven has always viewed himself as superior, with his narcissistic tendencies and unhinged behavior only growing worse with each passing season. The final chapter has taken it to new heights, with his megalomania prompting him to bring about a new world order, where Supes, particularly himself, reign supreme.
The Boys revamps Homelander into a God
The episode begins with Homelander telling Firecracker of his revelation from an angelic illusion of Madelyn Stilwell in Episode 3. Declaring himself a god, he tasks her with presenting him as such. She then seeks out Ashley and her husband, Oh-Father, to help manipulate the media and convince the masses.
The episode ends with Oh-Father delivering a speech to the audience, saying they will all commit to a “divine rebranding.” He adds that they will be “patriots of faith” and fulfill the dream of America’s founders.
He subsequently announces that Samaritan’s Embrace Ministries will become the Democratic Church of America. Finally, Oh-Father concludes by introducing Homelander to the stage and uses his screaming powers to make people accept him as their god. After seeing the audience, Homelander raises his hands, stares into the light, and breathes.
Earlier, Homelander and Soldier Boy arrived at Fort Harmony, with the latter locking the former in an enriched uranium chamber to prevent him from getting Compound V1 and achieving immortality. Meanwhile, the Boys ended up fighting each other after their brain chemistry was altered by spores generated by the Supe, Quinn. Frenchie, immune to the spores’ effects due to years of substance abuse, and Soldier Boy ultimately stopped him, with the latter using his B.L.C. Red to kill him. This allowed everyone to return to normal.
Homelander was being poisoned by the uranium, but eventually broke out. He later came across Soldier Boy, but spared his life after the latter told him the V1 wasn’t there.
The first four episodes of The Boys Season 5 are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
