The Day of the Jackal is raising the stakes for its upcoming second season with a major new casting addition. After a critically acclaimed debut led by Eddie Redmayne, the Peacock thriller is bringing in a formidable new antagonist to challenge the elusive assassin. As per the recent reports, an Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe winner, best known for White Collar, has officially joined Season 2 in a villain role.

The Day of the Jackal Season 2 has cast Matt Bomer, famously known for playing Neal Caffrey in the hit series White Collar, reports Deadline. Fans may also remember him from Outcome, Fellow Travelers, Doom Patrol, and the Magic Mike movie series. The two-time Emmy nominee will play a villain in the second season of Peacock’s popular series starring Redmayne.
Apart from Bomer, Weruche Opia and Pablo Schreiber are also part of the next season as series regulars.
The Day of the Jackal is based on Frederick Forsyth’s novel and the 1973 film adaptation from Universal. It follows an unmatched and highly elusive lone assassin, Jackal, played by Redmayne. He earns his living by carrying out assassinations for the highest bidder.
The first season, which premiered in 2024, was highly admired by critics and viewers, while earning multiple Golden Globe and Actor nominations. In its opening weekend, the show launched as a Top 5 streaming drama in the U.S., according to Nielsen. Moreover, it also logged a 28-day audience of 4.6 million in the U.K. It marked the biggest launch for a new Sky series.
Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, and Marianne Buckland are executive producers on the show alongside Redmayne, writer David Harrower, director Brian Kirk, Sam Hoyle, Sue Naegle, and Ronan Bennett. Lis Steele serves as the producer.
The Day of the Jackal Season 2 hasn’t received a premiere date yet. Moreover, production is currently underway in Budapest.
