**Warning: contains spoilers for The Four Seasons season 1.**

The Four Seasons is back to send us on another emotional rollercoaster as the main characters reunite after a stunning loss.
A lighter alternative to The White Lotus and Two Weeks in August, the Netflix comedy-drama follows a group of longtime friends as they take a series of leisurely trips together – one in each season of the year.
Alas, this treasured tradition is now moving ahead without one of its originators, as dear friend Nick (played by Steve Carell) shockingly died in a car crash at the end of season 1.
We may have seen the immediate fallout in the finale, but grieving is a much longer process, and the impact of this devastating loss will continue to reverberate throughout the second season.
The Four Seasons is inspired by the film of the same name, with its writer-director and star Alan Alda making a cameo appearance in the second episode, albeit in a different role entirely. The M*A*S*H icon had previously appeared in Fey’s 30 Rock.

The Four Seasons season 2 release date on Netflix

The Four Seasons season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix from Thursday 28 May 2026.
The team behind the series brought these eight episodes together in only 12 months, which is a welcome relief when certain other shows are taking multi-year breaks between seasons – from The White Lotus to Severance.
Of course, co-creator, executive producer and star Tina Fey is a seasoned veteran of US network television from her time on 30 Rock, where she had to churn out many more episodes in the same space of time. So this, fittingly, must feel like a holiday!

Prior to the show’s formal renewal, co-creator Fisher had said that she and her collaborators already had “ideas” for future stories, having converted the show from a closed-ended miniseries to a continuing drama during production.
Co-creator and star Fey explained (via The Hollywood Reporter): “I think we were encouraged to stay open to [season 2], as well. It is so human in its scale, and I think humans are going to be around for… at least 15 more years.”
The Four Seasons cast: New and returning in season 2

Almost every member of The Four Seasons cast is returning for the second season, with one notable exception.
Viewers will remember that Nick (played by Steve Carell) met his untimely fate at the end of season 1, leaving viewers shocked by the emotional twist and the departure of a big-name star.
Of course, Carell has since launched his HBO Max series Rooster, so don’t expect a surprise return for the comedy legend.
Co-star Will Forte lamented: “It sucks! He’s the best… We all gelled pretty quickly last season so to have such an integral part of this puzzle be gone, we kind of reacted in the same way that our characters in the show reacted. It’s a huge loss.”
Forte reprises his role alongside former 30 Rock collaborator Tina Fey, with the pair playing longtime married couple Jack and Kate, whose relationship navigated some choppy tides in season 1.

Kerri Kenney-Silver (Margo’s Got Money Troubles) and Erika Henningsen (Hazbin Hotel) also return as Nick’s ex-wife Anne and his subsequent girlfriend Ginny, both of whom are now bereft by his sudden death.
Colman Domingo (Euphoria) and Marco Calvani (You, Me & Tuscany) complete the ensemble as married couple Danny and Claude, but Fey has promised more familiar faces will pop up along the way.
The prolific comedy star teased involvement by “some friends” (via THR), which suggests we could see more alumni of previous Fey projects, such as Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt or Great News.
So far, Steven Pasquale (The Good Wife) is the only confirmed addition to the cast, playing a man named Mark Brett, who befriends the group of holidaymakers during their summer trip (first reported by Deadline).
Here’s a reminder of The Four Seasons cast members who could return for season 2:
- Tina Fey plays Kate
- Colman Domingo plays Danny
- Marco Calvani plays Claude
- Kerri Kenney-Silver plays Anne
- Will Forte plays Jack
- Erika Henningsen plays Ginny
- Julia Lester plays Lila
- Ashlyn Maddox plays Beth
- Steven Pasquale as Mark Brett
The Four Seasons season 2 plot: What is it about?

The Four Seasons season 2 will return to the same friendship group as they deal with new challenges – including moving on together after Nick’s tragic death.
The official synopsis, courtesy of Netflix, reads: “Coming off a hard year, our group of friends carries on their tradition of vacationing together – now with a baby in tow.”
As we learnt in the season 1 finale, Ginny became pregnant shortly before Nick’s death, but was now facing the enormous challenge of raising the baby alone, which spurs his wary friends to take her under their wing.
Co-creator Tracey Wigfield explained (via TV Insider): “She and Anne are going to have children who are siblings, and it just gives us a lot to play with in their relationship.”

Fey has revealed she’s faced questions over the decision to kill off Carell’s character, but stood by the decision and its impact.
“We wanted something to happen that was human-scale, but also meaningful,” she told TV Insider. “We’re getting to an age where that happens. If someone our age dies… It’s sad, but not that shocking.
“So we decided, as painful as it was, that we would let that happen and see what that did to the other characters.”
Despite comparisons to The White Lotus, co-creator Lang Fisher has rejected the suggestion that the show could “ever” introduce a different group in the style of an anthology (via The Hollywood Reporter).
