Iran and New Zealand face off in the early hours of Tuesday morning, with both sides facing an uphill task to get out of Group G.

Iran, who topped their qualifying group after losing just one of their 10 games, are making their seventh World Cup appearance this summer.
They’ve never managed to get out of their group but given the 2026 edition is expanded to 48 teams, Iran could qualify for the round of 32 as one of the best third-place sides behind Belgium and Egypt in Group G.

New Zealand are appearing in just their third World Cup and their first since 2010. They beat Fiji and New Caledonia in their play-off semi-final and final respectively to secure their spot this summer.
The Kiwis, who are expected to finish bottom of the group, have played six games in the competition and they’re still searching for their first win (drawn three, lost three).
