World Cup favourites Spain get their tournament underway on Monday evening as Luis de la Fuente’s side face off against Cape Verde in Atlanta.

Spain dominated in qualifying as they won five of their six outings on their way to securing a World Cup spot. They also scored an impressive 21 times and conceded just two in that period.
The European champions, who won Euro 2024 after beating England in the final, won the World Cup in 2010 but they only made it to the round of 16 at the last two tournaments.

De la Fuente’s side are expected to dominate Group H given their opposition of Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay. Monday night’s clash is perfect for them to get off to a great start given Cape Verde are making their World Cup debut.
Cape Verde, who are ranked 67th in the world, topped their qualifying group ahead of Cameroon after winning seven and losing just one of their 10 outings to land their first World Cup spot.
