The second season of Ransom Canyon has now landed on Netflix, with the new instalment continuing on in the same dramatic, ranch-focused vein as the first – and picking up after *that* major marital cliffhanger.
The series is once again led by Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, with their budding will they/won’t they romance forming one of the main storylines of the first season. But with their relationship not really getting off the ground in season 1 and Quinn (Kelly) contemplating a move back to New York, all eyes will be on the pair to see how they’ll handle new hurdles and expected bumps in the road.
Created and written by Wednesday‘s April Blair, the series has gone down a treat with viewers and filled that cosy, easy watch drama hole that many are missing in their watchlists. But as well as all the drama, Ransom Canyon also boasts plenty of stunning landscapes and scenic shots.
So, where was the new Netflix drama filmed? Read on to find out.
Where is Ransom Canyon filmed?
Although Ransom Canyon is a fictional ranching town in Texas, the series was actually shot in a variety of places in New Mexico including Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Vegas, with filming for season 1 taking place in early 2024 and production for season 2 kicking off in 2025.
It was announced that for season 2 of Ransom Canyon, more than 700 New Mexicans, including 380 crew members, 40 principal actors, and 300 background talent, would be hired for the production. As per the production announcement: “The large-scale production reinforces New Mexico’s reputation as a leading destination for film and television, capable of supporting multi-season series and sustained studio partnerships.”
The announcement confirmed that filming for season 2 would unfold across Albuquerque, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, Nambé, Santa Ana and Santa Domingo through January 2025.
Steve Graham, New Mexico Film Office director, said in a statement: “The return of Ransom Canyon for its second season is a powerful statement about our state’s production capabilities.
“Netflix’s continued partnership proves that our combination of a skilled workforce, diverse locations, and a strong partnership makes New Mexico an ideal home for long-term series production. We’re proud to have them back.”
Speaking of the filming process in Albuquerque, leading actress Minka Kelly told Tudum for season 1: “It just was wild how much I have in common with Quinn. I’ve never had to shoot in Albuquerque until this show.
“I was afraid to go back because I hadn’t really been there since my childhood, which wasn’t the best. Going back in this way just took away the boogeyman. There were places I visited from my childhood that I would think, ‘Man, if the Minka at that time would have ever imagined I’d be back here shooting this show, I never would have believed it.’
“It was really beautiful and there’s something divine about it.”

In terms of exact locations, both seasons have primarily been shot in Netflix’s Albuquerque production hub, which was initially announced back in 2018, across its 12 sound stages. But as well as that, Ransom Canyon also utilised real-life ranches just outside of Santa Fe.
Speaking to Distractify about where the series was shot, actor Jack Schumacher revealed: “It’s a really gorgeous area. And when you’re out riding a horse through this scenic ranch, it’s easy to sort of feel like you’re really there with the characters.”
Some of the other notable locations that were used for filming include Blame Her Ranch in Ribera and Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe.
