A long-awaited fan favourite has arrived in House of the Dragon season 3! Ser Roderick Dustin, AKA Roddy the Ruin.
The warrior is played by Tommy Flanagan, and made a dramatic entrance into episode 1, coming to the aid of Matt Smith’s Daemon in his bloody fight against the Lannisters at Harrenhal and giving us an iconic line in the process.
But, as the Dance of Dragons continues, that certainly won’t be the last we see of the warrior.

Who is Ser Roderick Dustin (Roddy the Ruin) in House of the Dragon season 3?
Ser Roderick Dustin, AKA Roddy the Ruin, is the Lord of Barrowton and the head of House Dustin. He’s a savage warrior and fights fiercely for Rhaenyra Targaryen’s (Emma D’Arcy) cause during the Dance of Dragons.
In season 3 episode 1, Daemon (Matt Smith) is seen fighting the Lannisters in the Riverlands in a conflict known as the Battle by the Lakeshore.
While he receives a report that the Lannisters have regrouped, Roddy and his men come to the prince’s aid, bringing him the head of Lord Lannister and giving the iconic battle cry: “We have come to die for the dragon queen!”

Who is Roddy the Ruin actor Tommy Flanagan?
Scottish actor Flanagan is best known for roles including Filip “Chibs” Telford in Sons of Anarchy, Cicero in Gladiator, and Morrison in Braveheart, as well as Tulk in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Williamson in All About the Benjamins, and The Stranger in When a Stranger Calls.

The actor has also appeared in iconic films including 1997’s Face/Off, 2000’s Sunset Strip, 2004’s Alien Vs Predator, and 2005’s Sin City.
On TV, he’s also known for his role as Walter Flynn in Power Book IV: Force.
What happens to Roddy the Ruin in Fire and Blood?
Warning: Major spoilers for George RR Martin’s book Fire and Blood – and potential spoilers for future episodes of House of the Dragon – ahead.
In Fire and Blood, Ser Roderick leads a huge Northern army, known as the Winter Wolves, to support Rhaenyra Targaryen.
He’s involved in multiple battles, including the Battle by the Lakeshore, in which he gets scarred while fighting the Lannisters, and he begins the battle known as Butcher’s Ball.
Roddy is later killed during the First Battle of Tumbleton while leading the charge against Lord Ormund Hightower (although he does kill both Ormund and his cousin, Ser Brynden Hightower first).
