One of HBO‘s most popular TV shows from the 2010s has finally received an exciting update about its potential return. This comes nearly a decade after series creator and star Lena Dunham‘s acclaimed comedy-drama series Girls had concluded its six-season run.
What did Lena Dunham say about HBO show’s potential sequel movie?
During a recent interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM, Dunham opened up about the potential continuation of Girls, after Cohen asked her to consider writing a sequel movie to the HBO show because he believes that enough time has passed for it.
The Golden Globe nominee expressed interest in the project, revealing she “would be delighted” to do a Girls movie with the main cast, with whom she had just started a new text chain. She also admitted that she already has an idea about the potential sequel’s plot, revealing that the cast often talks about what their characters would be doing now.
“I would love to, and I have to say I got a little plot line in my brain. I do. Like, it’s impossible not to think about where they are now,” Dunham shared. “I have a new chain with the girls and Andrew (Rannells) called ‘Survivors of the Crackcident.’ And Jemima (Kirke) will pop in with like the best take on, ‘Jessa’s really into RFK Jr.,’ and you’re like, ‘Of course, she is.’”
She continued, “And I just see them. Also, like those are my muses, so I think it’s an obvious thing. (But) We don’t wanna come back to the party too early. We wanna be appropriately missed.”
Girls was written and created by Dunham, who also led the cast and served as a showrunner. The ensemble cast consisted of Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, Adam Driver, Andrew Rannells, Alex Karpovsky, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Jake Lacy, Christopher Abbott, and more. Throughout its six-season run from 2012 to 2016, the show won two Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. Since its debut, it has maintained its approval rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.
