We now have our first look at The Blame, ITV’s upcoming drama helmed by Brassic star Michelle Keegan and The Sandman‘s Douglas Booth.

An adaptation of the novel of the same name by Charlotte Langley, the upcoming series takes place in the “seemingly quiet town” of Wakestead where a murder rocks the local community – but it also places one officer at the centre of the crime, it seems.
In the teaser trailer, we see that 16-year-old Sophie was initially reported missing by her parents and then is sadly found dead.
When investigating the case, though, Keegan’s DI Emma Crane hears a police radio crackling in some audio evidence, showing that a fellow officer must’ve been present on the night in question.
With this information, Emma doubles down on trying to find out who it is.

She confronts the officer in question, PC Callum Drummond (Ceallach Spellman), in the station locker room, with a picture of Sophie that has crude drawings over it. We then hear Emma explain that Sophie was with a police officer when she was killed and see a quick flashback to a night when PC Drummond is leaning into the car she’s in.
But DI Tom Radley (Booth) tells Emma that pursuing this case will “blow up our department”, something that Emma has no problem with as she invites her colleagues “to test me”.

The trailer also gives us glimpses at the likes of Ian Hart (Mr Bates vs The Post Office) as DCI Kenneth Walker, Nathan Mensah as DC Lewis and Gavin Spokes (Slow Horses) as DC Joel Stevens, all of whom look very worried and annoyed that Emma is pushing to uncover ongoing corruption.
A release date for The Blame hasn’t yet been announced but it is due to air this autumn so it’ll be one to add for our future watchlists.

Centring on DI Emma Crane (Keegan) and DI Tom Radley (Booth) who are investigating a tragic murder in the fictional town of Wakestead, the synopsis reads: “They quickly identify their main suspect, but as the case progresses, an unexpected lead comes to light. As Emma and Tom dig deeper, they uncover web of lies, institutional cover ups and moral compromise, which forces Emma to question the people closest to her.”
Described as “part propulsive mystery, part social commentary, part love story”, the series is set to “tackle big questions around policing and will take an unflinching look at who we can really trust”.
Joining the aforementioned cast are also Nigel Boyle (Line of Duty) as digital forensic technician Brett Shergill, Joe Armstrong (Gentleman Jack) as ice-skating coach Kyle Frasier, Matilda Freeman (Passenger) as Sophie Madsen and Josh Bolt (Masters of the Air) as DC Douglas James.
