House of the Dragon legend Steve Toussaint has promised what sounds like a world of pain ahead for his character Corlys Velaryon in season 3.

The Sea Snake has already been through the wringer, losing his wife Rhaenys (Eve Best) last season – and it sounds like his troubles are far from over this time around.
Speaking exclusively to Radio Times, actor Toussaint said: “Without being spoiler-tastic, there are a few occasions where he does come close to his demise. Will he survive? I can’t say.”
It’s no secret that Corlys will also play a big part in episode 1’s The Battle of the Gullet, billed as one of the biggest Game of Thrones battles ever committed to screen.
Teasing what’s to come for the Sea Snake, he added: “He’s coming up against his mortal enemy, who wants him dead, and then, as part of his grieving process, he continues on something of a rampage, which also leads him into some dicey situations.”
Comparing his role in the battle on screen to George RR Martin’s book Fire and Blood, he added: “If you liked Corlys being in the back of the scenes doing nothing, then you won’t like this. If you want him to get out there and do something, then you will like this.”
Meanwhile, season 3 will also see the continuation of Corlys’s fractured relationship with his bastard sons, Alyn and Addam.
Opening up about what’s ahead for that relationship, Abubakar Salim, who plays Alyn of Hull, told us: “At the end of season 2, Alyn letting rip at Corlys really was a way of showing a quite vulnerable edge to him.

“It was almost like a challenge to Corlys to be like, ‘If you really want to do this, you’ve got a long journey to take.’
“So with season 3, that wound is still very fresh, it’s still very open, and that challenge is still very much there. It’s really about how these two navigate that wound that they both share… and we see how that also erupts in a huge battle, which very much shows everyone’s true colours.”
House of the Dragon season 3 will arrive on HBO Max on 22 June in the UK. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on HBO Max, Sky and NOW – find out more about how to sign up for Sky TV.
