It has been reported that Netflix is developing a live-action series based on the Persona video game franchise, which will come from the team behind Stranger Things.

The news was first reported by Variety, with the publication saying that Christopher Monfette is attached to write the adaptation, while also serving as executive producer and showrunner. Monfette has previously worked on 12 Monkeys, Star Trek: Picard and 911, and is attached as a writer on the upcoming Marvel Disney+ series VisionQuest.
The project is coming from 21 Laps, the production company most famously behind Stranger Things. Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Robert Atwood will executive produce for the company, alongside Dmitri M Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg and Timothy I Stevenson of Story Kitchen and Toru Nakahara of Sega.
Emily Feher is said to be overseeing the project for 21 Laps. When approached by Variety, Netflix declined to comment.

The Persona franchise is a series of role-playing games, with each typically following Japanese high school students juggling everyday routines and friendships with battles against supernatural threats.
The franchise began as a spin-off from the Shin Megami Tensei series, and the first instalment, Revelations: Persona, arrived in 1996.
There have been six main entries to date, including two Persona 2 games, and the franchise show no sign of slowing down. Atlus has officially announced Persona 6, although a release date has yet to be confirmed, while a remake titled Persona 4 Revival is due out on 18 February 2027.

The report doesn’t confirm which corner of the Persona universe the show would explore. No plot, setting or specific game has been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether the series would adapt an existing entry or tell a new story within the franchise.
There is also no casting information or release window, with Variety’s report stressing the project is at an early stage of development.
If it moves forward, the series would extend Netflix’s run of video game adaptations, following the live-action The Witcher and animated hits including Arcane, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
