Morocco face off against the already-eliminated Haiti in Atlanta on Wednesday night as they look to top World Cup Group C.
Mohamed Ouahbi’s side, who drew 1-1 with Brazil in their opener before beating Scotland 1-0 last time out, are currently second in the group behind Brazil based on goal difference.
FIFA is now using head-to-head records instead of goal difference as the tiebreaker in the group stages, however. Morocco and Brazil played out a draw in their opener, so if the top two sides in Group C end up level on points, it’ll be decided by goal difference and then finally goals scored.
Therefore, Morocco will be desperate to secure a dominant victory against Haiti, who are only playing for pride, to give themselves the best chance of beating Brazil – or Scotland – to top spot.
Morocco finished fourth at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and if they top Group C, they’ll play the runners-up from Group F in the last 32, which will be one of Sweden, Japan or Netherlands. If they finish second, they’ll face the winner of that group.
